Terms of Service
Last Updated: October 17, 2026
The short version:
- Your first 7 days are free, with Starter's allowances to try.
- Your plan renews by itself until you cancel. Cancel anytime from your Dashboard.
- Gifts are paid once and never expire. If you share your Refer a Friend link, say you get a reward.
- Refunds are looked at case by case. Write to us if something went wrong.
- Gusteau is an AI. His recipes can contain mistakes, so check allergies and food safety yourself.
- Be kind, don't abuse the service, and your recipes stay yours.
- Disputes are settled one to one by arbitration, not in class actions. You can opt out within 30 days.
Using Gusteau
Gusteau is made and run by Wyzie LLC (wyzie.io). These terms are an agreement between you and Wyzie LLC, a North Carolina limited liability company ("Wyzie", "we", "us"), for using Gusteau: the website at trygusteau.com, the app at gusteau.ar0.eu, and anything else we offer under the Gusteau name (together, "Gusteau" or "the service"). By making an account, starting a free trial, or using Gusteau, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Gusteau.
These policies are part of these terms, and you agree to them too: the Privacy Policy, the Acceptable Use Policy, Gusteau's AI and Cooking Safety, the Refund Policy, the Cookie Policy, the Copyright Policy and the Support Assistant page. Please read Disputes and Arbitration carefully: it says most disputes are settled by individual arbitration instead of in court, and that you give up the right to a class action, unless you opt out.
Who Can Use Gusteau
- You need to be at least 13 to make an account. If you're under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), a parent or guardian must agree to these terms with you and is responsible for your use, including any payments. Where the law sets a higher age for agreeing to the use of your data without a parent (up to 16 in parts of Europe), you also need a parent or guardian's agreement until that age.
- For now, Gusteau is open to people in the United States: paying for a plan or a gift needs a card billed in the United States. We'll update these terms if that changes.
- You can't use Gusteau if we've closed your account before for breaking these terms, or if the law forbids you from using it, for example because you are in a country under a United States embargo or on a United States government list of restricted people.
- If you use Gusteau for an organization, you confirm you're allowed to agree to these terms for it. Gusteau is made for home cooks; it isn't licensed for running a restaurant or other food business.
Your Account
- Give us a real email address that you control, and keep your password and sign-in codes to yourself. You're responsible for what happens in your account, so tell us straight away if you think someone else got in: change your password from your Dashboard and write to [email protected].
- One account is for one person. Don't share it, sell it or let others sign in to it. To cook together, use a family plan (below), shared links or Recipe Boards.
- You agree that we can send you notices, agreements and receipts electronically, by email to the address on your account or inside Gusteau, and that they count as being "in writing". These include sign-in codes, security notices, and trial and billing messages; they continue while you have an account. Tips and news come only if you opt in, and you can switch them off in your Dashboard at any time.
- Keep your own copy of anything that matters to you. The Download My Data button on your Dashboard gives you everything saved to your account in one file (Recipe Boards stay on the board). We work to keep your data safe, but we can't promise nothing will ever be lost.
The Free Trial
Every new account can start a free 7-day trial. To begin it, you add a payment card. Nothing is charged during the 7 days. If you don't cancel before they end, Gusteau Starter starts automatically, billed monthly, and your card is charged the monthly price that was shown when you added it (plus any sales tax or VAT that applies), and it then renews as described below. We email you about 2 days before. You can cancel any time before the trial ends from your Dashboard, and then you won't be charged.
The trial includes Gusteau Starter's allowances (see below). Because nothing is paid yet, very heavy use during the trial may pause early; picking a plan lifts the pause right away. You can pick any plan during the trial, including Gusteau Pro; that ends the trial and begins billing for that plan right away. There is no free plan after the trial.
If you start through a friend's Refer a Friend link, your trial is 14 days instead of 7, on the same terms.
One free trial for each person and each card. We may decline a trial for a card that has already been used for one (on any account, including a deleted one), for prepaid or virtual cards, for throwaway email addresses, or when it looks like someone is making several accounts. You can still subscribe to a plan without a trial. Until a card is added, the trial hasn't started.
Subscriptions and Billing
- There are two plans, Gusteau Starter and Gusteau Pro, each billed monthly or yearly at the price shown when you subscribe. Prices are in US dollars, and we don't add card or processing fees. Where the law requires it, sales tax or VAT is added on top, worked out from your billing address and shown before you pay.
- Starter comes with a monthly allowance of each thing Gusteau makes for you: 40 new recipes, 100 chats with Gusteau, 40 photo uploads, 60 rounds of ideas, 8 week plans, 15 dish pictures, 60 pantry updates and 20 shopping lists. The allowance starts again each month on the day your plan began, even on a yearly plan, and unused amounts don't carry over. If you run out, you can wait for the next month or move to Pro. Like Pro, Starter is also covered by fair use: unusually heavy use in a month may pause before an allowance runs out, until the next month starts or you move to Pro; Gusteau tells you when that happens and when it comes back.
- Pro has no set limits for normal home cooking. To keep it fair and affordable for everyone, very heavy use in a month (far beyond what a household cooks) may be paused until the next month starts; Gusteau tells you when that happens and when it comes back.
- You can switch between plans and between monthly and yearly from your Dashboard. The difference is prorated by Stripe for the rest of the current period: moving up (Starter to Pro, or monthly to yearly) is charged right away, and moving down leaves a credit on your next bill. One exception: if you move from Pro to Starter after using more that month than Starter covers, the Pro you used isn't credited. Fair use follows the switch the same way: moving up partway through a month opens the bigger plan's room for the part of the month you paid for, and switching between monthly and yearly starts a new month that counts what the old one already used.
- It renews automatically at the end of each month or year, and your card is charged for the next period at the then-current price, until you cancel. By subscribing, you authorize us (through Stripe) to charge your payment method for each period, and for any family seats you add, until you cancel. Before a yearly plan renews, we email you a reminder, and on a monthly plan we email you once a year to remind you what it costs and how to cancel.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing you also agree to Stripe's terms for payments. Keep your card details current; you can change them on the Manage Billing page of your Dashboard. On every card form on our site, the card number goes straight to Stripe through fields Stripe serves inside the form, and never to us.
- If a payment fails, we'll try again for a while and email you. While we do, you can keep cooking lightly; if it keeps failing, paid features stop until the payment goes through.
- If we ever change the price, we'll tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you can cancel before then. A new price starts at your next renewal, never in the middle of a period you've paid for.
- If you think a charge is wrong, please write to [email protected] first; most mistakes are fixed within a day. If you dispute a charge with your bank instead, we may pause the account while the dispute is open, and we'll share the facts of the charge with Stripe and your bank so they can decide it.
Family Seats
- On Gusteau Pro, the account holder (the "owner") can invite up to 8 people to cook on their plan. The plan includes the first person who joins at no extra charge. Each person after that takes a family seat, billed to the owner every period at the seat price shown when it's added, and charged when it's added for the rest of the current period. If the included person leaves, the next person in the family takes their place and one seat comes off the bill. The owner is responsible for every seat's charges.
- Everyone in a family shares one Pro allowance (fair use covers the whole family, and grows with each seat; a seat added partway through a month adds room for the part of the month it was charged for), and shares a pantry, a week plan, a shopping list and a Family Recipes board. Anything you put in those is seen and can be changed by everyone in the family. Your own account, saved recipes and what Gusteau knows about you stay yours.
- Only invite people you cook with, and only with their agreement. Each member needs their own account and agrees to these terms.
- The owner can remove a member, and a member can leave, at any time. When a member leaves or is removed, or when the owner's Pro plan ends, members lose their seat and the shared pantry, week plan and shopping list, and keep their own account. Seat charges already paid aren't refunded except as the Refund Policy says.
Gifts
- You can buy a month or a year of Gusteau Pro for someone else, paid once at the price shown (plus any sales tax or VAT that applies). Nothing renews, and the person you give it to doesn't need a card.
- A gift is a length of Pro, not an amount of money. It has no fees and never expires, unless it is refunded.
- A gift is opened once, by whoever has its link and signs in first, so give the link only to the person it's for; we can't replace a gift that someone else opened with a link you shared. Opened by someone with no paid plan, it gives them Pro (with Pro's fair use) from the day they open it; a second gift adds its time after the first. When it ends, nothing is charged, and they can pick a plan or stop.
- Opened by someone who already pays for Gusteau, the amount paid for the gift becomes a credit on their bill instead, which pays their next charges. People cooking on someone's family plan can't open a gift.
- Someone on a gift who picks a plan isn't charged for it until the gift ends (with less than two days of the gift left, the plan starts and is charged right away).
- A gift has no cash value and can't be exchanged for money or resold, except as the Refund Policy says or where the law requires it.
Refer a Friend
- A friend who starts through your link gets a 14-day free trial instead of 7, if their card hasn't had a trial before.
- You earn a credit worth one month of your plan once your friend has paid us enough to cover it, which is usually after a few months of their plan (sooner on a yearly one). If you have no plan yet, the credit is worth a month of Gusteau Starter. It goes on your bill and pays your next charges; it has no cash value.
- Up to 12 months a year. One reward per friend and per card. Referring yourself, or a card you use, doesn't count. Credits stay on your account and can't be moved to someone else.
- Say you get a reward. When you post or send your link, tell people you get a free month if they join (for example, "I get a free month if you sign up with my link"). That's what the law on endorsements asks, and it's only fair. Say what you really think of Gusteau, and don't make claims about it we don't make.
- Share your link only with people who'd want it. Don't spam it, send it in bulk to people you don't know, post it where the rules forbid it, or buy ads that use the Gusteau name or link.
- We may hold back or take away a reward that came from misuse, such as made-up accounts or spam, and may change or end the program for the future (rewards already earned stay yours). Whether a reward counts as income for tax is for you and the law where you live.
Canceling and Refunds
You can cancel anytime. Go to your Dashboard, press Manage Billing, then Cancel Plan, and confirm; it takes a few taps, and the same page is where you change your card or see your invoices. You can also ask us to cancel by email, the Support form or phone. When you cancel, your subscription keeps working until the end of the period you've already paid for, and then it stops renewing. Deleting your account from your Dashboard also cancels your subscription.
Refunds are decided case by case, as the Refund Policy explains. We don't promise one for a period you've already started, unless the law where you live says we must, but if something went wrong, write to [email protected] and we'll look at it fairly and do our best to make it right. If you live in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can also withdraw within 14 days, as the Refund Policy explains.
Cooking with Gusteau's AI
Gusteau is an artificial intelligence, not a person, and not a professional chef, doctor or dietitian. His recipes, timings, temperatures, amounts, swaps, ideas, plans, shopping lists, answers and dish pictures (together, "AI output") are made by AI. They're usually good, and sometimes they're wrong, incomplete or unsafe. Gusteau's AI and Cooking Safety explains this in full; in short:
- Allergies and diets: Gusteau tries to follow what you tell him, but he can miss an ingredient, misread a photo or get a label wrong. Always check every ingredient, and the packaging of what you buy, when anyone at the table has an allergy, an intolerance or a medical diet.
- Food safety: cook meat, poultry, fish and eggs to safe internal temperatures, store food properly, and follow trusted food safety advice over any recipe or answer that disagrees with it.
- Kitchen safety: knives, heat, hot oil, gas, glass and appliances are your call. Supervise children in the kitchen. If a step looks unsafe or doesn't make sense, don't do it.
- Nothing Gusteau says is medical, nutritional, health or professional advice.
- Nutrition numbers are rough AI estimates worked out from the ingredients, not measured, and can be well off. They aren't medical, dietary or allergen advice; if you count for a health reason, check the labels and ask a doctor or dietitian.
- Budget plans come with rough AI guesses at what each meal costs. Real prices depend on the store, the place and the week, so your shopping may cost more or less.
- Cooking reminders are a convenience. An email can arrive late or not at all, so don't count on one for anything that matters, like food that must go in the oven on time.
- Hands-Free listens through your browser's speech recognition and can mishear. Check timers and steps on the screen.
- Gusteau can't make promises for Wyzie. He can't change your plan or bill, grant refunds, or agree to anything on our behalf; only a person on our team can, in writing. The same goes for any AI assistant that helps answer support (see Support Assistant).
You decide what to cook and how, and you cook at your own risk. As far as the law allows, Wyzie isn't responsible for illness, allergic reactions, injury, or damage to property that comes from preparing, cooking or eating food, or from following AI output.
Acceptable Use
Use Gusteau lawfully and kindly, and follow the Acceptable Use Policy. Among other things, don't break the law; harm, harass or deceive anyone; upload things you don't have the right to share; try to get into other people's accounts or boards; get around the trial, plan allowances, fair use or security; scrape, overload, copy or reverse engineer Gusteau; use bots or scripts to use it; trick his AI into producing harmful content; or resell Gusteau or present it as your own service. If someone breaks these rules, we may remove content, limit features, or suspend or close their account.
Your Recipes and Content
What you put into Gusteau (your messages, photos, links, notes, recipes and anything you share on a board or by link, "your content") stays yours. You give Wyzie a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, process, adapt, send and show your content only as needed to run, secure and improve Gusteau for you and for the people you share it with, and to follow the law. The license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies you've shared with others (they may keep what you shared) and backups that are cleared on their normal schedule.
When you share a recipe with Let Anyone Find It switched on, you also let us show it to the public, including search engines and link previews, without your name, until you switch it off or delete it. Search engines and others may keep copies for a while after that, which we can't control.
You confirm you have the right to everything you upload or share, and that it doesn't break these terms or anyone else's rights. We don't check content before it's posted, but we may remove anything that breaks these terms or the law.
As between you and us, you may use the recipes and other AI output Gusteau makes for you however you like, including cooking, printing, sharing and publishing them. AI output may be similar to what others get, and recipes themselves (lists of ingredients and basic steps) often can't be owned by anyone, so we don't promise you'll have exclusive rights to it.
Gusteau Belongs to Wyzie
Gusteau's software, design, text, the Gusteau name, the chef character, the logo and everything else we make (other than your content) belong to Wyzie LLC and its licensors, and are protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. We give you a personal, revocable, non-transferable, non-exclusive permission to use Gusteau for your own home cooking while you follow these terms. You may not copy, change, sell or make other products from it, or use our name or the chef character, without our written permission.
Other Companies' Services
Gusteau works with other services, such as Stripe for payments, Google if you sign in with it, and AI and search providers that help write recipes. Their own terms apply to their part, and we're not responsible for them. If you send your shopping list to a store such as Instacart or Kroger, your order, prices, substitutions and delivery are between you and that store, under its terms. If you order through Instacart after sending a list, Instacart may pay us a small fee; it doesn't change your price. Gusteau may show or link to other websites, for example a recipe link you pasted; those websites, their content and their rights are theirs, and we don't endorse or control them.
Feedback
If you send us ideas about how to make Gusteau better, we may use them freely, without owing you anything. We'd love to hear them.
Copyright Concerns
If you believe something on Gusteau, such as a shared recipe or board, uses your work without permission, follow the Copyright Policy. We respond to proper notices and close the accounts of repeat infringers when it's appropriate.
Changes and Availability
We work hard to keep Gusteau running, but it may sometimes be down, slow or changed, for example for maintenance or because a provider is down. We may add, change or remove features, and features marked as new or as a preview may change more often. If a change takes away something important you pay for, we'll tell you first, and you can cancel. If we ever shut Gusteau down, we'll tell you at least 30 days before and refund the unused part of any paid period.
No Warranty
Gusteau is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, Wyzie makes no promises or warranties of any kind, whether stated or implied, including that Gusteau will be uninterrupted, secure or free of errors, that AI output will be accurate, complete, safe, suited to your diet or health, or free of allergens, or any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title or non-infringement. Some places don't allow some of these exclusions, so they may not all apply to you.
Limits on Our Responsibility
As far as the law allows:
- Wyzie and its owners, staff, contractors and providers aren't responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, goodwill or food, however caused, even if we were told they might happen.
- Wyzie isn't responsible for what happens when food is prepared, cooked or eaten, for other people's content, or for things outside our reasonable control (see below).
- Our total responsibility to you for all claims about Gusteau or these terms is limited to the greater of what you paid us for Gusteau in the 12 months before the event that led to the claim, or US $50.
These limits apply whatever the legal theory (contract, warranty, negligence or anything else), and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. They don't limit responsibility that the law doesn't allow to be limited, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our gross negligence or willful misconduct. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection laws where you live that can't be waived by contract.
Your Responsibility to Us
As far as the law allows, you'll defend Wyzie and its owners, staff and contractors against, and cover the costs (including reasonable lawyers' fees) of, any claim by someone else that comes from your content, your breaking these terms or the law, or your infringing someone else's rights. We'll tell you about the claim, and we may choose to handle the defense ourselves, in which case you'll help us as reasonably needed. This doesn't apply to consumers where the law doesn't allow it.
Suspending and Closing Accounts
You can delete your account anytime from your Dashboard. We may suspend or close an account, or remove content, if it breaks these terms or the law, puts other people or Gusteau at risk, is used for fraud or abuse (including trial abuse or charges disputed in bad faith), or if the law requires us to. We'll tell you why when we reasonably can, and give you a chance to sort it out unless the problem is serious or we're not allowed to. If we close an account that didn't break these terms, we'll refund the unused part of any paid period.
An account with no paid plan that hasn't been signed in to for two years may be deleted. We email you a month before, and signing in is all it takes to keep it.
When an account closes, your permission to use Gusteau ends. The sections that by their nature should continue (such as content you've shared, payments owed, No Warranty, Limits on Our Responsibility, Your Responsibility to Us, and Disputes and Arbitration) continue.
Disputes and Arbitration
Talk to us first. If something goes wrong, please write to [email protected] with your name, the email on your account, what happened and what you'd like us to do. We'll do the same if we have a problem with you. Neither of us will start an arbitration or court case until 30 days after that notice. Most things get sorted that way.
Arbitration. If we can't sort it out, you and Wyzie agree that any dispute, claim or controversy about Gusteau or these terms (including whether this section applies) will be settled by binding individual arbitration, not in court, except as described below. The arbitration is run by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, in front of one arbitrator. It can happen by video or phone, by written submissions, or in the county where you live. Wyzie will pay the AAA filing, administration and arbitrator fees beyond what you'd pay to file in court, unless the arbitrator finds your claim frivolous. The arbitrator can award the same individual relief a court could, and the Federal Arbitration Act governs this section.
Exceptions. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies and stays there. Either of us may go to court to stop someone infringing intellectual property, or misusing or breaking into the service.
No class actions or jury trials. You and Wyzie may bring claims against each other only individually, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative action, and the arbitrator may not combine more than one person's claims. You and Wyzie both give up the right to a jury trial. If this class waiver is found unenforceable for a claim, that claim (and only that claim) goes to court, and the rest of this section still applies. If 25 or more similar arbitration demands are brought by the same lawyers or in coordination, they may be handled in batches under the AAA's rules for mass arbitrations.
Opting out. You can opt out of arbitration and the class waiver by emailing [email protected], from the email on your account, within 30 days after you first agree to these terms, saying that you opt out. Opting out doesn't change anything else in these terms.
Time limit. As far as the law allows, a claim must be brought within one year after it arises, or it's barred.
If we change this section, the change won't apply to a dispute we already knew about before the change.
Governing Law and Courts
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any claim that isn't arbitrated goes to the state or federal courts located in North Carolina, and you and we agree to those courts. If you're a consumer, none of this takes away rights you have under the consumer protection laws where you live, including any right to bring a claim in your local courts.
The Rest of the Agreement
- Whole agreement. These terms and the policies they name are the whole agreement between you and Wyzie about Gusteau, and replace anything said before. If something Gusteau's AI says, or a page on the site, disagrees with these terms, these terms win.
- If a part doesn't hold. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, it's changed as little as needed to make it enforceable, and the rest stays in effect.
- No waiver. If we don't enforce a part of these terms right away, we can still enforce it later.
- Transfer. You can't transfer these terms or your account to anyone else. We may transfer them, for example if Wyzie or Gusteau is sold or merged, and we'll tell you if we do; your rights under the Privacy Policy go with them.
- Things outside our control. We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as natural disasters, outages of the internet, power, hosting, AI or payment providers, attacks, strikes, war or government action.
- Our relationship. Nothing in these terms makes us partners, employees or agents of each other, and no one else has rights under these terms.
- Notices. We send notices to the email on your account; send yours to [email protected]. Headings are for reading only, and "including" means "including without limitation". If these terms are translated, the English version wins.
Changes to These Terms
If we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top. If the change matters, we'll tell you by email or in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect (sooner only when the law or safety requires it). Using Gusteau after that means you accept the new terms; if you don't agree, cancel and stop using Gusteau before then.
